This Whole Rick Roll Thing

Sort of off topic - I seemed to have missed most of  it  but now I am sick and tired of it except at least this one doesn’t have that creepy bartender in it.

Keep Your Feet Off My Table PC

Rosie Computer Coffee Table

There has recently been a rash of articles and blog posts about the Rosie Coffee Table. I have been bewildered that a fairly basic touch screen personal computer has gained so much interest. Is it because it is in a coffee table? I think that it will be a while before touch screens stretch beyond basic kiosk uses due to a whole host of factors particularly the lack of applications and the glacial speed of user adoption of new user pointing and manipulation devices. As sad as it may seem, I think the speed of change in this area will not accelerate until my kids start hacking and it will be a truly transformative experience much like the iPhone is to your basic WAP experience and will be something more similar MIT’s high resolution multi touch system that Jeff Han demo’d at TED:

Motivatrix’s MX9 Workout Machine

Inspired by games such as Dance Dance Revolution and the Nintento Wii,  the Motivatrix is a hybrid exercise / gaming machine. In an effort to replace boring traditional workout machines such as the elliptical or stationary bike, the MX9 Workout Master takes the general design of a Dance Dance Revolution arcade machine, and infuses it into a new generation of workout machines. The MX9 has built in arm sensors so it can see your arms flailing about and sensors under your feet so it can pick up on your fancy footwork.  You can even jam out to your own music on the MX9 although it comes preloaded with some tunes of its own. Probably the most interesting feature of the MX9 is the machines ability to connect to the Internet so people can compete against each other virtually, kind of like a fitness version of Xbox Live.   Source: Engadget

Software turns Google into a Virus Scanner

google.jpg
Websense, a well known security vendor has created software that turns the worlds most popular web search engine into an Internet virus scanner, capable of finding websites hosting malware. Using a binary search feature Google is able to look inside hosted .exe files that are normally unreadable. Researchers at Websense developed software tools that use this feature and are able to "google" for stings known to be used in popular malware worms such as Bagel and Mytob. They uncovered more than 2,000 websites hosting these malicious files and also were able to detect legitimate sites that had been hacked.

Websense has stated they do not plan to make the code public at this time and only plan to share it with a select group of researchers. Some people fear that this same technique could be used to manipulate the search engine and trick users into downloading malware. Now that the word is out, it will be interesting to see if similar tools are developed and made available to the public that use the same technique. Source: PC World

How to Automate and Record Tasks with Firefox

Firefox-logo.png

This is a very cool "plugin" for Firefox that i can see being abused to hell by spammers but I’m going to post it anyway. Selenium IDE is a Firefox Extension which allows you to automate, record and also playback everyday tasks in FireFox. Most people have a daily routine of sites they visit, blogs they read, and email accounts they check and now instead of typing URLs for hours you can go through them all with a single click of the mouse. The extension acts as a macro in a way so at first you need to record your daily routine. Once you record that into the extension you are able to save it and then load it up and with a click of a mouse replay it.

This video demonstrates how to record and playback tasks with Selenium IDE.

Each tile measures 29.35 cm and costs 19.99 Euros per tile ($25 USD). So far the building appears to be doing quite well, attracting large companies such as Nike, Mercedes and BMW as a new and intriguing way to advertise. I have a feeling its not long before people start whoring selling the walls of their houses as well. Real or Photoshoped? You decide…Via Zipped
