Surfs Up: New Surfboards use Hydrofoil Technology

Every year a new trend seems to surface in the world of surfing. Last year it was kite boarding and this year the hot new thing is big wave surfing with a board that rides almost 2 feet above the water. This is made possible because of a hydrofoil, essentially built into the bottom of the board, which acts as the surfboard’s fin. The hydrofoil acts as a "wing" under water creating lift, which raises the board and rider out of the water when they reach a certain speed.
