PSP 2.71 Firmware Hacked

Kotaku is reporting (and has a video to back it up) that the PSP 2.71 firmware has been hacked. Although the music is a bit annoying, the video seems to be proof that PSP users are again one step closer to easier access to homebrew apps and games. Video below…

    This is very impractical, you need to buy the Undiluted Platinum mod chip for this “firmware hack” to be implemented. There is NO hack yet for 2.71 firmware except for one that will shut of the system by running a certain eboot. Although if you have a firmware 2.60 (not 2.7+) there is an exploit that has recently been made to unlock the kernel so that it will just be like FW 1.50 *cough* ISO’s *cough*

    so how do you fit a mod chip ??? is it something you can do without breaking your psp? or you have to get some wizard from hogworts to do it

    uhmm u guys.I feel your pain on the 2.71 firmware i hacked into that Loco game and reaplaced some of the firmware in it..I got it going but it says game cannot be started..

    Ummm… wouldnt one think that with the 2.71 firmware update, playing games off of the memory stick wouldnt be that hard to do, since the 2.71 allows a person download PSP game demos from sonyDOTcom and save them to your memory stick?

    As for right now, u can hack the 2.7 … sorta. I have many Flash app, Such as PSP Tunes, lets u listen to your music while using the PSP internet. Or Flash Selector, lets u open Flash objects from memry offline.

    what’s the point of that hack anyway? it turns off the psp?

    Also, if anyone stumbles past a solution for the 2.71 firmware in the future, can they post here?
